Created by: Margie Dayana - Parent's Corner/Parenting As a working mother of three children, I always feel that I have a long “To Do" list every day. This list just never seems to end. You know that feeling of every time you scrap an item off your "To Do" list, ten other items just magically pop up again. It is like a never-ending story... This is why I often feel that I have so much to do and soooooo little time. But I did find out that there are ways to save time. Therefore, I have put a list and free downloads together, hoping that it can help other busy mommies out there. Do not get me wrong, it will still require work....mmmm... hard work actually. But I assure you that if you follow these very simple hacks you will have more time left that you can spend with your family. Even if you are not a mom, the next tips might still help you save some time for yourself and your loved ones. Make a shopping list... I have often found myself spending hours in the supermarket. Just thinking what to buy and I would grab things that I did not really needed. Every time when I got home from the supermarket and unpacked my groceries, I realized that there was something that I forgot. This would lead me to go to the supermarket again. Wow, so much time wasted going back and forth. By simply creating a shopping list, this all changed. Bringing my shopping list to the supermarket has saved me so much time with my grocery shopping. Also, it has helped me save a bit of money, because I now I actually buy the things I really need. Weekly Meal Plan... So how to find out what you really need at the grocery store. It is very simple, just make a weekly meal plan and stick to it. Below you can download both your free shopping plan and meal plan to get started. By planning your meals, you automatically know what ingredients you will have to buy. But before you put the ingredients on your shopping plan, do not forget to check if you already got the ingredients at home. You do not want to end up buying things you already have. Furthermore, making a meal plan will save you time in thinking what to eat today. Also, do not throw away your old meal plans, because you can re-use them over and over again. Which will save you time re-thinking a whole weekly menu. Cook up a storm... When you cook.......cook some more! For example, if you make pasta, make twice the pasta sauce. This way you can put the pasta sauce in the freezer. You can use the pasta sauce for some other time, this will save you a lot of time because all you have to do is heat it up the next time around. I know this might not be the freshest meal that you have put on the table, but it is still better than putting in a last-minute frozen pizza because you didn’t have time to cook.
Prepare everything the night before... We all tend to leave things for the next morning or at least I do for sure. However, when you wake up a bit late, you will go woooopsss….still 500 things to do and no time! What will happen next is that you probably forget many things and you have to run back home (yes again time wasted and stress added). The truth is, between getting the family and ourselves ready, we just do not have much time in the morning. So save yourself all the morning trouble and prepare everything the night before. I really mean everything!!! For example, put your keys, ID cards, bus or train tickets in your bag. Prepare your child’s school meal and fill up water bottles. Pick out your child’s outfits and yours too. You don't have hours to decide what to wear in the morning. Also, look at the weather forecast the night before, because you might have to bring a jacket or an umbrella. This way you are prepared and you don't have to go back and forth to your house. You could even set the table with plates and cups, ready for breakfast. So, go ahead, work a little longer in the evening and you will see that it will save you lots of time and headaches the next day. You might even find yourself sleeping in a little longer in the morning. Spot Clean Kitchen... My grandmother would never go to bed before her kitchen was spot clean. When I was younger, I did not understand why she would do that. It could just wait until the morning right? Boy was I wrong! Now that I have my own family, I can see why this helped her. Believe it or not but waking up to a clean kitchen, will really help you give a piece of mind and will save you lots of time in the morning because you have a great start without having to wash plates and cups early in the morning. Get your children involved... This is maybe not so simple when your children are still very young. But you can start with small steps, like letting them to clean and tidy up their own toys. As they grow older they can become more responsible, like packing their own school bags, setting the table for dinner, or washing the dishes. Aside from teaching your children responsibility, it will also save you a little bit of time. As said before, the workload is absolutely not less and it still takes a lot of work. The hardest part in the beginning is following through and actually doing it. However, believe me.....you will see that hard work will pay off. If you can organize yourself and follow the above hacks, you will find out that things will become less hectic and you will save yourself some precious time! Give it try and let me know how it went for you. I would also love to about any other hacks that you might would like to share.
