It wasn't until my oldest daughter, Selena, started growing up and 'woke' me up. She is all about gender equality and treating others with respect, no matter what they do or what their background is. Her IB MYP Personal Project was music centered around gender inequality in Javanese culture, and she wrote two songs. For her Theory of Knowledge presentation, she made a presentation about the evolution of woman representation in early age entertainment through Disney Princesses. She made me think about life and the things that I could do for myself as a woman. My husband gave me that extra push and inspired me by saying that I should never doubt myself. So, I went back to school and got my Masters degree. With the support from my husband and children, I also got to publish a children's story book. This was in collaboration with Feda who makes beautiful drawings and became a good friend throughout the process.
I thought of the women I have met in my life. These women who are all trying to make it out there by doing something for themselves or their families. I think that each of you are amazing and I want to put you in the spotlight. I think that women do not compliment each other enough. Therefore, I want to recognize what other ladies are doing. If you know an amazing lady in your life and want to put her in the spotlight, drop me a note. Even if you think you deserve to be put in the spotlight, let me know as well. I would be more than happy to connect with all of you and write about the great stuff that you do. This blog is about education and therefore it is about learning and I strongly believe that we can all learn from each other.
